One of the seminal horror movies of my childhood! Told my parents I was taking my brother to see a western, we went to this instead. Those were the days when you could walk in in the middle of a movie, stay as long as you liked. We walked in on a dead guy in a coffin, revived by a wish from his wife, screaming in agony because he's already been embalmed. For two young kids walking in off the street, it was astonishing and horrifying. Far superior to the later, stupidly campy American versions [...] Read more

Effective addition to the "found film" genre, though more epic in proportion than most. What starts off as a search by student filmmakers to locate a bear poacher turns into the filming of one of Norway's secretive Troll Managers as he attempts to find out what has been causing the country's various troll populations to wander farther afield than usual. Amazing special effects.

I have seen A CLOCKWORK ORANGE many times in my life. As a teenager, when I frist saw it, I reveled in the film's violence, totally missing Kubrick's (and Burgess's) theme. Now, 40 years after its first release, and 35 years after I first saw it, I bought the anniversary Blue Ray and watched it again. All I can say is that 40 years of film violence has not blunted the power of this movie. Older now, with my own family, I was appalled at the film's violence and brutality, shaking my head through [...] Read more

Effective post apocalyptic road movie with Chris Pine leading his brother and and two women across an empty landscape looking for refuge after a viral pandemic. The tone is similar to most films and television shows with this theme, including Walking Dead. If you like that sort of thing, you'll like this. I enjoyed it enough.

Surprisingly good SF disaster flick from the 1960s with some strong psychosexual tension throughout. Janette Scott is beautiful, cold, and distant as the wife of older scientist Stephen Sorenson (Andrews) who is dead set on penetrating the earth with a nuclear rocket to release geothermic energy. Instead, he cracks the world open, and unleashes an affair between his wife and his nemesis, the younger scientist Ted Rampion. Some great moments as the scientists attempt to stop the rapidly spreading [...] Read more

This was one of my favorite animated films of recent years. The opening sequence where Carl meets Ellie, and they begin their life together, has to be the most poignant animated film making I've ever seen. Funny, touching, suspenseful, and in the end a great story that wraps up in a totally satisfying way. Worth watching, as is the director's earlier Monsters, Inc.

Creepy mocumentary hits all the right notes, despite Eli Roth's involvement. Exceptional, natural performances by every actor in the film give it a verisimilitude that's hard to achieve. The ending strays a bit, but other than that a nice addition this sub-genre.
